Russian ambassador leaves Belarus with tinge of sadness

Russian ambassador leaves Belarus with tinge of sadness

MINSK, 30 August (BelTA) – It is with a tinge of sadness that I am leaving my post in Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia Alexander Surikov told the media, BelTA has learned.

“What do people feel when they leave the place where they worked for a long time? I have been working here for twelve and a half years? Of course, it is with a tinge of sadness. I believe that we have interacted well with the people and leadership of Belarus,” Alexander Surikov noted.

At the same time, the diplomat noted that he is returning to his homeland in a good mood. “I am not a little boy. My work experience, if I remember correctly, is 60 years. Finally I will be able to do the things that I have not had time for: take care of my grandchildren and so on,” he added.

Speaking about the appointment of the new Russian Ambassador to Belarus, Alexander Surikov has expressed confidence that the policy towards strengthening the relations between the two countries will be continued.

“Choosing the approaches to work, the mode of interactions and so on is up to ambassador. I cannot judge. The main thing is the result, namely further rapprochement of our sister nations. This is the goal we should aim for,” he said.
