Russia views Belarus as closest ally, pledges to fulfill all commitments
Vladimir Putin

SOCHI, 14 September (BelTA) – Russia views Belarus as its closest ally and will fulfill all of its commitments, Russia President Vladimir Putin said as he met with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Sochi on 14 September, BelTA has learned.

“Russia remains committed to all our agreements, including those that stem from the Union State Treaty, the CSTO. We view Belarus as our closest ally and, like I told you several times over the phone, will meet all our obligations,” the Russian president said.

He noted that both the countries took on these obligations, even before his presidency. “But this is irrelevant. What is important is that the country – Russia – took on certain obligations. And the country must honor them, regardless of who is in power at the moment. We have reaffirmed numerous times that this is exactly what we are going to do,” Vladimir Putin stressed.
