MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – There is peace and security on the Belarusian land and this will always be so, Belarus’ Defense Minister Andrei Ravkov told the media ahead of the official meeting to mark the 100th anniversary of the Armed Forces of Belarus, BelTA has learned.
The minister congratulated the veterans of the Great Patriotic War who made Great Victory possible. “We should always be proud of this victory, our grandfathers and great-grandfathers,” Andrei Ravkov said.
He also addressed congratulations to the veterans of the Armed Forces who, in the postwar years, throughout the second half of the 20th century, maintained the parity that helped prevent a nuclear war.
The minister emphasized the nationwide nature of the holiday, because every resident of the country is the defender of their homeland. In that connection, he recalled the famous saying that “it is armies that win battles and it is people who win wars”.
Belarus has built up a clear system of national security, including the military one, which enables to fend off the threats, risks and challenges that exists in the modern world today,” Andrei Ravkov noted.
Being the main military element of the national security, the Armed Forces of Belarus continually develop and improve. The president has set clear tasks in this area. “There is no doubt that these tasks will be fulfilled,” Andrei Ravkov said.
