Rakhmanov: Europe’s interest in Belarus in on the rise

MINSK, 27 May (BelTA) – European countries have been showing an increased interest in Belarus, Sergei Rakhmanov, Chairman of the International Affairs and National Security Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, said at the meeting with representatives of the national public association Belaya Rus on 27 May, BelTA has learned.

Deintegration processes are taking place on the international arena, which is a reaction to negative side effects of globalization, Sergei Rakhmanov said. On one hand, globalization is a natural process aimed at developing opportunities. On the other hand, it promotes the policy of the leading powers in their interests. The European integration results in many countries losing almost practically their economic sovereignty.

Deglobalization trends continue, and the countries will seek alternative ways, Sergei Rakhmanov believes. A huge interest in Belarus from the European countries testifies to the fact.

As BelTA earlier informed, Minsk will host a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee of the Central European Initiative (CEI) on 30 May. Delegations of 12 countries will take part in the session. Belarus is presiding in the CEI in 2017. The session will be dedicated to the intellectualization of economy in the CEI region, innovative manufacturing, management, and human potential. According to Sergei Rakhmanov, the theme has aroused keen interest from the CEI and CEI Deputy Secretary General Erik Csernovitz, who is expected to take part in the session, has already expressed confidence in a positive result of the upcoming event.

The chairman of the Council of the Republic’s permanent commission added that today Belarus enjoys positive momentum in the relations with the West, and these relations will continue developing. The East, however, will remain a priority for Belarus.
