He said that the treaty stipulates mutual allied obligations with regard to defense, protection of sovereignty, independence, and the constitutional system of Russia and Belarus, the integrity and inviolability of the territories and the external border of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. While using all the available forces and assets.
“We are also talking about the Russian tactical nuclear weapons, which have been deployed in Belarus’ territory upon the Belarus president’s proposal,” the Russian leader emphasized.
He reminded that those weapons can be used for defense in response to a possible attack using weapons of mass destruction or to repulse aggression, which uses conventional weapons but represents a critical threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity. The possible uses are clearly stipulated by the executive order passed on 19 November to adopt the basics of the Russian Federation state policy in the field of nuclear deterrence.
“We constantly reconcile these matters with the leadership, with the president of Belarus,” Vladimir Putin added.
