Protocol on Russian natural gas import to Belarus in 2020 to offer comparable financial terms

MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) – Members of the Belarusian parliament will soon consider ratifying the protocol on amending the Belarus-Russia intergovernmental agreement on the procedure for setting prices (tariffs) on natural gas import to Belarus and natural gas transportation via the gas mains located in Belarus of 25 November 2011. The protocol is all about preventing financial terms of natural gas import to Belarus from getting worse, BelTA learned from Vladimir Sinyak, member of the Industry, Fuel and Energy Complex, Transport, and Communications Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus.

The MP noted that natural gas import is very important for the Belarusian economy. Belarus imports a lot of natural gas and only Russian gas at that. Prices for natural gas are an essential factor. “The essence of the document is to prevent financial terms of natural gas deliveries to Belarus in 2020 from getting worse in comparison with last year,” Vladimir Sinyak explained.

BelTA reported earlier that Belarus and Gazprom signed a protocol on pricing natural gas deliveries in 2020 in mid-February. The validity period of the intergovernmental agreement was extended through 31 December 2020. The protocol is applicable to legal relations that emerged as of 1 January 2020. In early February First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Dmitry Krutoi told media that $127 per 1,000m3 had been set as the baseline price for Russian natural gas deliveries in March-December 2020.
