MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) - One of Belarus’ foreign policy priorities at the present stage is to bolster relations and promote pragmatic cooperation with the countries of the European Union, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the Federal Republic of Germany Denis Sidorenko said in his article “Belarus: at the Crossroads Between East and West” in the German Business & Diplomacy magazine, BelTA has learned.
Denis Sidorenko drew attention to the fact that at present Belarus and the European Union are facing common challenges such as cross-border organized crime, illegal immigration or trafficking in human beings, which require a joint response.
The Ambassador also stressed that the EU is an important market for Belarusian products and supplier of high-tech equipment for the modernization of the Belarusian industries. Belarus actively participates in the EU regional Eastern Partnership initiative.
The parties are discussing the possibility of signing the partnership priorities, visa facilitation agreement and in the future a new framework agreement between the European Union and Belarus.
