MINSK, 20 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian parliamentary election is 80% ready, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina told reporters on 20 April before the seminar to discuss the participation of the national public association Belaya Rus in the parliamentary election campaign, BelTA has learned.
“The preparations for the election are underway, and I think we can say all events are 80% ready. If the election is announced in a day or two, we would be able to finalize everything within a few days,” the CEC chairperson said.
In her words, all oblast executive committees and the Minsk City Hall have harmonized the description of constituencies with the Central Election Commission. “The borders of constituencies are the main and the most difficult part of work because it is connected with the so-called election geography: constituencies should have virtually the same size and the number of voters,” Lidia Yermoshina explained. “Besides, we have developed the regulatory documents, or the theoretical basis, which will be used by the election commissions.”
Lidia Yermoshina also said that the CEC session will take place on 17 May. It will approve all the fundamental documents which will be used by election commissions. After that, these documents will be printed and handed over to the election commissions. “Therefore, we can say that the preparations are in the final stage,” she concluded.
The Belarusian parliamentary election is scheduled for 11 September 2016.
