MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) - Belarus a great tourist potential, Deputy Sport and Tourism Minister Mikhail Portnoy said in an interview with the STV channel on 29 January, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus has good tourist opportunities. There are more than 5,500 objects of historical and cultural heritage in the country. Four of them are already on the UNESCO World Heritage List. More are expected to be added in the future,” Mikhail Portnoy said. In recent years, Belarus has made great progress in the development of sport tourism. Hosting the IIHF World Ice Hockey Championship in 2014 played a big role in this. “Our country has many world-class facilities and can host any training sessions or competitions. We use these facilities quite successfully. We hosted about 60 major events in 2015, and already 80 in 2016,” Mikhail Portnoy said.
The decree on five-day visa-free entry for nationals of 80 states will contribute to an increase of the tourist flow. “First and foremost, we have high hopes on travelers from the neighboring countries (Russia, Ukraine, Baltic states, Poland), and also tourists from Israel, China, Western Europe,” he added.
