PM: Belarus’ government has a plan for working amidst EU sanctions

MINSK, 5 July (BelTA) – The government of Belarus has a clear plan how to work amidst the EU sanctions, Belarus Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko told the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA informs.

“We are now trying to more accurately assess the impact of sectoral sanctions on the economy. We have a clear plan for working in this setting. Perhaps we will become even more motivated. Tougher working conditions will prompt us to move even faster, to actively penetrate new markets. I would say that for us it is a kind of motivating and stimulating factor,” Roman Golovchenko noted.

According to him, there are plans to expand cooperation with traditional partners. For example, the prime minister of Belarus has recently been on a working trip to Kazakhstan. “During the visit, we identified projects that will help us grow in the next few years,” he stressed.

Roman Golovchenko also answered the question about how the sanctions will affect cooperation with European financial institutions. “We had and still have a substantial package of projects that have already been approved by European financial institutions, with all necessary decisions taken. Perhaps some clarifying acts will be adopted by the European Union, but, as far as I know, these sanctions do not apply to existing agreements. Even if for some reason they put these projects on hold or decide to drop them, we know the way out – we will replace these resources with our own or with borrowed funds. We are working with Asian investors, funds of a number of other countries,” he said.
