MINSK, 9 September (BelTA) - A regional athletics center may be established in Belarus, IAAF President Sebastian Coe told the media after the meeting with Belarusian head of state Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 9 September, BelTA has learned.
Sebastian Coe stressed that this topic was on the agenda of the meeting with the Belarusian president. If implemented, this project will help the country train high-level track and field athletes.
The head of the International Association of Athletics Federations expressed the opinion that in Belarus, more than anywhere else, they understand the importance of sport. He thanked the Belarusian side for cooperation in the development of athletics, in the fight against doping. “We have made great progress," Sebastian Coe noted.
He stressed that today's meeting was another opportunity to show that sport can be a bridge, especially in such difficult times.
The International Association of Athletics Federations is an international governing organization in athletics, of which 214 countries are members. Founded in 1912, it is headquartered in Monaco.
