Pirshtuk: OSCE PA is ideal for advancing a new Helsinki process

MINSK, 4 October (BelTA) – The OSCE parliamentary dimension is ideal for exchanging opinions and searching for common ground with a view to advancing a new Helsinki process, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Boleslav Pirshtuk said at the OSCE PA Autumn Meeting, BelTA learned from the press service of the parliament.

Head of the Belarusian delegation Boleslav Pirshtuk took part in the debates to discuss cybersecurity. He called upon the participants of the debates to consider the problem of responding to challenges and threats in cybersecurity through the lens of the general situation on security in the OSCE. He also reminded the MPs of the Belarus President’s initiative voiced at the OSCE PA session in Minsk and the need to renew the Helsinki process in the interests of peace and security in Europe. According to the vice speaker, the OSCE parliamentary dimension is ideal for exchanging opinions and searching for common ground with a view to advancing a new Helsinki process.

Member of the Belarusian delegation, Chairman of the International Affairs Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Valery Voronetsky also took part in the additional parallel event “Development of more accessible parliaments: assistance to the participation of people with disabilities” organized by the Finnish parliament jointly with the OSCE/ODIHR.

The OSCE PA Autumn Meeting is held in Andorra la Vella, Andorra through 5 October. The event is held under the theme “Security in the OSCE Area: New Challenges, New Tasks”. The Autumn Meeting discusses cybersecurity, climate change and education.
