RIGA, 19 May (BelTA) - Belarus and the EU will not be ready to sign an agreement on mobility and initial an agreement on visa facilitation at the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Latvia Andrejs Pildegovics told media in Riga on 19 May.
Andrejs Pildegovics stressed that a lot of work had been done on the documents. “Our goal is to reach concrete decisions before the end of Latvia’s EU presidency. I think we will discuss these issues on Friday. We expect to sign the documents in mid June,” he said.
“We are gradually advancing on the visa agreement. We expect to finalize visa documents before the end of our chairmanship in the European Union, i.e. 1 July 2015. The mobility area is one of the themes where Latvia’s EU presidency can play its role. We are doing our best and call for Minsk to take advantage of Latvia’s EU presidency to make some progress in the matter,” Andrejs Pildegovics said.
