MINSK, 5 May (BelTA) – A responsible attitude should be a major criterion in journalists’ work, Marianna Shchetkina, Deputy Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, said as she attended the awards ceremony of the 13th national print media competition Zolotaya Litera (Golden Letter) on 5 May, BelTA has learned.
The present-day world is saturated with information that is available from numerous sources, including print media and online publications. However, any information should conform to the criteria of objectivity, reliability, and responsible attitude, Marianna Shchetkina believes. “Information should be conveyed in a way that shows respect for the reader, love for the country and for the life. Journalists should follow this principle when talking about how things should be and what should be done, about what requires support and special attention,” she added.
Everyone involved in journalism should be aware of their responsibility, Marianna Shchetkina emphasized. Although information presented by journalists may be subjective to a certain extent, which is understandable, it is important to always tell the truth because all who convey information assume responsibility for the readers, Marianna Shchetkina pointed out.
She extended professional holiday greetings to members of the media and thanked them for their work.
