MINSK, 9 July (BelTA) – Diego Maradona's involvement in the football life in Belarus will contribute to the popularization of the sport in our country, Belarus’ Sports and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk said in an interview with the ONT TV channel on 8 July, BelTA has learned.
According to the minister, Diego Maradona’s involvement in the football life of Belarus will help promote football. “This is a big deal for FC Dinamo Brest, the city of Brest and the entire country. We don't know what his thoughts, plans and goals are. He has not yet outlined his program. We only know that he will be involved in the life of FC Dinamo Brest,” Sergei Kovalchuk said.
When asked about a possible meeting with Diego Maradona in Brest on 16 July, the minister said that there is no such meeting on his schedule. But if needed, such meeting could be organized at the level of the ministry.
As it was reported, Argentinean Diego Maradona signed a three-year contract to join the Belarusian club Dinamo Brest as their new chairman. He will oversee the strategic development of the club and all its structural units, including the children's academy.
