Opinion: Call of Polesie festival increases visibility of Pripyat River region

PETRIKOV DISTRICT, 31 July (BelTA) - The international festival of ethnocultural traditions The Call of Polesie helps to unlock the potential of the Pripyat River region and the country, Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Subbotin said after the meeting to discuss the preparation for the festival in the agro0town of Lyaskovichi, BelTA has learned.
 
Every year the ethnographic festival grows large and more diverse, Aleksandr Subbotin noted. “It has transformed from an interregional event into a national and international one. Its program becomes richer. Despite the fact that Belarus is a small country, it is unique and diverse in its cultural traditions and nature. We need to promote it, to unleash its potential. Festivals, including the Call of Polesie, help to show the country to the world. This is not only an organization of leisure activities for Belarusians and guests, but also an additional opportunity to tell more about our unique land,” Aleksandr Subbotin said.

“Polesie, from Brest to Gomel, will be represented at the festival as widely as possible. These are nature, crafts, traditions, national cuisine, dance and songs – the entire cultural potential,” Aleksandr Subbotin stressed. This year the festival will host the Mozyr Economic Forum for one day. According to preliminary data, delegations from 15 countries confirmed their participation in the forum.

The 6th edition of the international festival of ethnocultural traditions The Call of Polesie will gather guests in the agrotown of Lyaskovichi on 15 August.

This year's festival program is as packed as possible. First of all, the traditional festival venue has turned into an open-air historical and ethnographic museum. Representatives of eight districts of Gomel Oblast and three district from Brest Oblast are preparing presentation pavilions.

The goal of the Call of Polesie festival is to preserve and popularize ethnocultural traditions, study and support the rich historical and cultural heritage of the region, and strengthen the creative ties of frontier regions. It is held every two years. In 2018, the festival gathered about 35,000 guests The organizers are the Culture Ministry, the Gomel and Brest regional administration and the Pripyatsky National Park.
