MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Slovakia have great potential for strengthening cooperation, Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives Boleslav Pirshtuk said as he met with a Slovakian parliamentary delegation led by Robert Madej, Chairman of the Constitutional Committee of the National Council (Parliament) of the Slovak Republic, Head of the Group of Friendship with Belarus, BelTA has learned.
“The growth rate and dynamics confirm that the potential for cooperation is huge and that we have only begun to explore some of the areas in which we could cooperate,” Boleslav Pirshtuk said.
This is the third official meeting with Slovakian MPs in 2019. Such meetings help outline priorities for future cooperation. “The governments of Belarus and Slovakia have very good relations. The countries have stepped up cooperation at the high level. I am happy that we have started to cooperate more closely at international platforms,” Boleslav Pirshtuk noted.
Boleslav Pirshtuk spoke at length about security in the region. He stressed that Belarus’ Helsinki 2 initiative could not be more timely. “I believe that MPs should revisit this topic once again in order to create the levers and formula to influence the processes taking place on the continent in a way that can bring stable peace to the region,” Boleslav Pirshtuk said. He added that Belarus-Slovakia trade has growth potential and that the areas of interaction are many.
In turn, Robert Madej pointed out that Slovakia is interested in invigorating cooperation with Belarus. “We meet quite often, which helps strengthen cooperation and friendship,” he noted.
