Opinion: Belarus' international recognition grows

MINSK, 25 October (BelTA) – Belarus is becoming more and more recognized in the international arena, Viktor Shadursky, Dean of the Faculty of International Relations at Belarusian State University, Doctor of Historical Sciences, noted at the 16th international scientific conference Belarus in the Modern World on 25 October, BelTA has learned.

According to Viktor Shadursky, after Belarus had become independent, it has made and continues to make a lot of effort in the international arena to strengthen peace and security and promote stability, in particular, by serving as a platform for peaceful international negotiations. “Belarus has become a truly effective platform for negotiations and international political, economic, scientific, and sports meetings and events. Our international partners know and appreciate this,” the professor remarked.

In his words, 2017 is a momentous year as it marks numerous events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Belarus and other states. The Faculty of International Relations has hosted a series of meetings and roundtable discussions that have given a good opportunity to analyze Belarus’ achievements over the quarter of a century.

The dean continued to speak about the active work of young Belarusian scientists. According to him, the interest in Belarusian scientific solutions has been growing throughout the world. Viktor Shadursky stressed the need to focus the effort of domestic scientists, including the young ones, on large fields of research that are essential in terms of their effectiveness for the state.

The international scientific conference is taking place at the Faculty of International Relations at Belarusian State University in cooperation with the international non-governmental association for scientific research, information and educational programs Evolutio, the Foreign Policy and Security Research Center, and the Public Association on European Research. The forum’s main topic is “Belarus amid global and regional turbulence”. Partaking in the event are representatives of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia (MGIMO), Minsk State Linguistic University, Belarus’ Security Council, students, master’s degree students, postgraduates, and faculty members.
