MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) - A dialogue between Belarus and the EU has been developing very dynamically, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media following a meeting with European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Johannes Hahn, BelTA has learned.
“The dialogue between Belarus and the EU has been developing very dynamically. We would like to see such dynamics remain in place in the future. During the talks we mentioned that the diplomatic relations between Belarus and the EU turned 25 last year. The past few years have shown that we have achieved considerable successes. We'd like the next 25 years to pass in the spirit of our relations in recent years, to evolve in a positive way. I am convinced that both sides understand the importance of good neighborly and constructive relations with each other,” Vladimir Makei noted.
He stated, however, that there are a number of sensitive issues on the agenda. “The most important thing is that all the parties understand the necessity and importance of a frank dialogue, including on sensitive issues. It is no secret that they apply to human rights and the development of democratic processes in our region. We have discussed these issues with Mr. Johannes Hahn,” the minister said.
