New details of Lukashenko’s meetings in Dubai revealed

DUBAI, 1 December (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik talked to reporters about details of meetings of the Belarusian head of state with his foreign counterparts on the sidelines of the 28th conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Dubai, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Aleinik said: “The head of state had a number of meetings with leaders of our Eurasian region, with presidents of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. And a very broad range of meetings with leaders of African countries.”

In particular, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with the president of the Comoros, who now chairs the African Union. The parties discussed the establishment of interaction between Belarus and the African continent as well as promising avenues of cooperation. “They agreed to promote interaction between Belarus and the African Union,” Sergei Aleinik noted.

Sergei Aleinik described the meeting of the leaders of Belarus and Zimbabwe as very substantial. In his words, the presidents discussed the implementation of the roadmap designed to guide Belarus-Zimbabwe cooperation, sketched out steps to expand interaction and arrange a session of the Belarus-Zimbabwe intergovernmental commission soon.

An agreement on advancing interagency cooperation was reached during the meeting with the Kenyan president. The heads of state sketched out concrete spheres of cooperation such as primarily agriculture, manufacturing sector, education, and healthcare. The presidents agreed to invigorate interstate contacts as fast as possible.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also met with presidents of Mozambique, Rwanda, and Botswana on the sidelines of the summit. “Key spheres, which worry African countries today, were discussed during these meetings. Those are agricultural technologies, education, healthcare, technological development, and information technologies. I’d like to add that they discussed not only prospects of development of new information technologies but, as the president put it, we should not forget about the old technologies that we have and which Africa badly needs nowadays,” the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs said.
