MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) – Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev suggested the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) to become coordinator of scientific support activities in the CIS as he spoke at the second Congress of Scientists of Belarus on 13 December, BelTA has learned.
“Today there is a special need for system-based scientific support of interstate integration. Assuming that the CIS is headquartered in Minsk, in view of the constant attention of Belarusian scientists to integration issues and in the light of the election of Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov to the post of head of the International Association of Academies of Sciences, we ask the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus to coordinate ongoing scientific support activities in the CIS, involving the scientific community of the CIS member states. We hope this proposal will gain understanding and support,” Sergei Lebedev said.
The CIS is implementing the interstate program of innovative cooperation. “Today we are carrying out ten pilot innovative projects. Scientists from Belarus are involved in nine of them. Nevertheless, it is advisable to start working on the algorithms and goals of joint action beyond 2020. It is extremely important not to waste time, to build on the momentum of cooperation and strive to develop a competitive knowledge economy and advanced technologies,” Sergei Lebedev noted.
