BREST, 21 August (BelTA) – Ukraine is grateful to Belarus for assistance in promoting the peace settlement in its south-east region, Consul General of Ukraine in Brest Oleg Mysyk said at a press conference on 21 August, BelTA has learned.
“We thank the whole world for the support that Ukraine feels every day. We are especially grateful to Belarus who gave us political support and provided the Normandy Four group with a negotiations platform. We greatly appreciate this demonstration of solidarity,” Oleg Mysyk stressed.
He also emphasized that Belarus’ position is important for Ukraine. “Otherwise we would not have accepted the invitation to hold the negotiations in Minsk. It is not easy to organize everything at such a high level. It is necessary to ensure security, and the host country is fully responsible for this. We are very grateful to Belarus,” he said.
Ukraine will celebrate its Independence Day on 24 August. The celebration program features a flower-laying ceremony at the monument to Taras Shevchenko. The Consulate General of Ukraine in Brest organized an exhibition to mark the event.
