MINSK, 27 November (BelTA) - Belarus views Moldova as a link between the Central and Southern European countries, Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich said as he met with Deputy Chairman of the Moldova Parliament Vladimir Vitiuc, BelTA has learned.
According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, Belarus is satisfied with the level of bilateral cooperation, including trade, economic and parliamentary ties. The speaker noted the effectiveness of contacts at the highest and high level, expressing the hope that they will develop further. “We view Moldova as a link with the countries of Central and Southern Europe,” he said.
For his part, Vladimir Vitiuc drew attention that this year Belarus and Moldova mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. He also stressed the high level of cooperation between the two countries.
The parties discussed the development of trade and economic relations which have a significant potential. Vladimir Vitiuc named agriculture and transport as the areas holding great prospects for the Belarusian-Moldovan cooperation. He praised the quality of Belarusian machinery and trolleybuses that Moldova purchases.
The parliamentary delegation of Moldova and representatives of 12 more countries will take part in the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Central European Initiative in Minsk on 28 November. The general theme of the CEI Parliamentary Assembly meeting in Minsk is digital technologies in terms of ensuring geopolitical security. Belarus presides in the Central European Initiative (CEI) in 2017.
