MINSK, 17 February (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in expanding parliamentary cooperation with Iran, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich said as he met with Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif, BelTA has learned.
“We are interested in expanding our cooperation with the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, i.e. closer contacts between our parliaments. We maintain close ties and have developed a cooperation mechanism,” Mikhail Myasnikovich noted.
In April 2014 the Belarusian parliament welcomed a delegation of Iranian MPs. This visit, according to Mikhail Myasnikovich, gave a strong impetus to the bilateral relations. Mikhail Myasnikovich believes that Belarus and Iran maintain a high level of political dialogue. Besides, the two countries are determined to ramp up cooperation in trade and economy, which is important for strengthening political and interparliamentary ties.
“We are going to promote cooperation in trade and economy. The MPs will offer any assistance in implementing economic projects,” the Chairman of the Council of the Republic emphasized.
