MINSK, 21 December (BelTA) – Political parties and public organizations are showing a higher activity at the forthcoming elections to the local councils than during the 2014 campaign, Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina said in an interview to the STV Channel, BelTA has learned.
“A lot of initiative groups have been registered to collect signatures. Their number is bigger than it was four years ago. This gives us optimism that we will have more candidates to the local councils than in 2014. I see people who show genuine interest in the elections. I would like to ask voters to support such persons,” said Lidia Yermoshina.
Eight out of 15 political parties have nominated their candidates for the election commissions. The registration of candidates to the local councils will complete on 8 January. It will be followed by the election campaign which will last through 18 February, the main election day. More than 18,000 members of the local councils will be elected.
