BREST, 21 April (BelTA) - Belarusians have started to show more respect for self-isolation rules, Belarus Internal Affairs Minister Yuri Karayev told the media ahead of the meeting of the internal affairs department of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee, BelTA has learned.

“At first, many of those who were supposed to be self-isolating were not found at home at a time of home visits. As it turned out people misunderstood things or showed irresponsibility. We would talk to them and draw up administrative protocols. Within the next couple of weeks, the situation had changed. There are fewer and fewer violations every day. People have an understanding of the importance of self-isolation, and show a more responsible attitude,” the minister said.

In the past 24 hours police and sanitary epidemiological service officers have checked on about 10,000 citizens who are required to be self-isolating. Of these, 383 were not found at home at a time of a home visit. Law enforcement officers quickly located these people, and returned them to their apartments. The minister stressed that the drafting of an administrative protocol for flouting self-isolation riles is an extreme measure. Law enforcement officials call on people to respect social safety measures.

Yuri Karayev said that every morning he receives information about the number of self-isolation patients - those showing mild coronavirus symptoms, the first- and second-level contacts. “In the internal affairs system we have a system of checking in on people under police supervision. We have built our work with self-isolating people to the same principle. We have set up analytical groups to accumulate the data about people, their addresses, the terms of self-isolation,” the minister explained. He added that before visiting citizens, police officers are briefed on health safety measures.
