MINSK, 15 July (BelTA) – Given the stiff competition on foreign markets the foreign trade agenda gets the priority in the work of the embassies, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei stressed as he addressed the annual seminar of the heads of diplomatic missions and consular institutions of Belarus, BelTA has learned.
“You see what is happening in the world and foreign markets. There are difficulties, I have to admit it, with reaching the ambitious goals this year, which is a direct area of responsibility of, among other things, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and foreign institutions. Our main task is to advance Belarusian goods and services to foreign markets. The situation on the foreign trade front has not become easier since our last year's meeting. It will not get easier. What we see is the toughest and uncompromising fight in all regions for markets and spheres of economic influence,” the minister said.
Vladimir Makei highlighted trade wars, protectionism, advancement of own interests at the expense of multilateral commitments. “All these things directly affect Belarus with its open economy. In these circumstances, the demands on the embassies, the importance of their contribution to the response to external challenges will only increase. We need innovative approaches, fresh unbiased views on the markets of the countries of your accreditation,” the minister said addressing the diplomats.
