Matviyenko praises role of parliaments in Belarus-Russia relations

MINSK, 25 February (BelTA) - The Federation Council of Russia and the Council of the Republic of Belarus make a significant contribution to the development of relations between the two countries, Chairperson of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko said as she met with Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich, BelTA has learned.

Valentina Matviyenko, who will participate in the session of the Supreme State Council of the Belarus-Russia Union State in Minsk, noted: “We are satisfied that the Russian-Belarusian relations have been developing in a steady and constructive way. Certainly, the parliaments of our countries make a significant contribution to this.” According to her, the Federation Council and the Council of the Republic actively assist with the development of interregional cooperation, as evidenced by the Third Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia (due in June).

Matviyenko praises role of parliaments in Belarus-Russia relationsThe Speaker also drew attention to the difficult economic situation in the world. Thanks to the interaction of Belarus and Russia in various fields, the two countries have achieved significant economic results, she noted.

Among other things, Valentina Matviyenko noted the important role of parliaments in implementing agreements reached at the highest level, in terms of harmonization of legislation, development of the unified legal framework, creating more favorable business environment, promoting contractual framework of the Union State. “The potential is great and I think that we will be able to put it to effective use," she said.

Mikhail Myasnikovich noted that the Council of the Republic and the Federation Council have developed good relations and they transform into concrete projects and agreements. “I think that the agenda, which the Supreme State Council will review today, is another serious step towards the strengthening of friendship and understanding between our two countries,” he said.Matviyenko praises role of parliaments in Belarus-Russia relations
