MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) – Mass media should use their influence for the sake of peaceful resolution of conflicts, BelTA learned from the Serbian reporter Bojan Brcic, who took part in the 19th World Congress of Russian Press in Minsk.
The congress participant noted that in his speech during the forum Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko raised a very important topic for modern mass media — their ever growing responsibility to the society.
Bojan Brcic said he believes that news reporting is starting to look a lot like politics. “It is not bad. We just need to steer this kind of politics towards creation and the peaceful resolution of disputes,” said the reporter. Bojan Brcic said he believes that by siding with one party in a conflict mass media may lose the trust of their readers and viewers.
The 19th World Congress of Russian Press “Partnership for the future: priorities of modern civilization” is scheduled to take place in Belarus through 15 July. Representatives of mass media from more than 50 countries are taking part in the event.
The 19th World Congress of Russian Press has been organized by the World Association of Russian Press, the Belarusian Information Ministry, and the World Russian Press Foundation.
