MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) – The fundamental task of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is to provide favorable external conditions for its member states, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media following the session of the CSTO foreign ministers on 17 July, BelTA has learned.
“In our opinion, today the CSTO’s fundamental task is not to be ready to respond to external factors. Our organization should be able to create favorable external conditions for the development of its member states, in the first place,” Vladimir Makei noted.
The minister pointed out the special role of diplomacy in this context. “As it was emphasized today by Belarus President at the meeting with the CSTO foreign ministers, only by working together can we effectively uphold our national interests and comprehensively strengthen the CSTO’s image in international arena,” Vladimir Makei added.
