MINSK, 22 July (BelTA) – Belarus sets great store by maintaining constructive cooperation with Syria, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as he met with Walid al Muallem, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, on 22 July, BelTA has learned.
“While promoting close and friendly ties between the two nations, Belarus sets great store by maintaining constructive cooperation with Syria. As we have said today, the endurance and value of these relations have stood the test of time,” the minister noted.
In his words, the two countries have similar or the same stance on many issues of the international agenda. A more active exchange of visits is expected to restore the level of cooperation the two countries had before the Syrian crisis.
Vladimir Makei noted that Belarus and Syria collaborate constructively within the framework of the United Nations. “Belarus provides consistent support to Syria when it comes to Syria-related resolutions passed by international organizations, charter bodies of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, as Belarus seeks to challenge a politicized approach and ungrounded attacks on Syria on the part of some Western countries,” he said.
The minister added that Belarus and Syria share views on the disarmament agenda.
