MINSK, 20 October (BelTA) – Belarus has never been and will not be a source of conflicts, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as foreign diplomats visited the 120th Independent Guards Mechanized Brigade of the North Western Operational Command of Belarus, BelTA has learned.
Vladimir Makei emphasized that Belarus pays much attention to ensuring transparency in the military sphere, as it is crucial for strengthening regional stability and security.
Belarus’ Defense Minister Andrei Ravkov stated that the Belarusian Army is absolutely open for the public, including for the international community. The defense minister gave a detailed account of the state and prospects of the Belarusian Armed Forces and new weapons in the army.
The heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of international organizations accredited in Belarus toured the 120th Independent Guards Mechanized Brigade of the North Western Operational Command at the invitation of the Belarusian Defense Ministry. They studied the history, structure and objectives of the brigade, the training of anti-aircraft gunners, artillerists and specialists in chemical and biological defense. The diplomats were shown samples of small arms, munitions and outfits of the brigade. They also visited the Uruchie firing range to see weapons practices and watched soldiers staging a tactical event.
Visiting the brigade was part of a series of informal meetings aimed at introducing foreign diplomats to various aspects of the country’s life. Thus, last time foreign diplomats took part in the Diplomats For Safety campaign that took place in the Silichi ski resort. According to the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, over the last years foreign diplomats were shown Belarus’ manufacturing, cultural, sports and tourist capacities.
