MINSK, 25 September (BelTA) – Belarus will contribute to the UN efforts in effective water resources management, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at the high-level meeting on the implementation of water-related Sustainable Development Goals at the UN headquarters in New York on 23 September, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“As one of the keynote speakers at the meeting, Vladimir Makei reiterated the commitment of Belarus to international water cooperation in the interests of global sustainable development. Belarus will actively contribute to the UN efforts in this area, taking into account national experience in effective water resources management, transboundary water cooperation, overcoming the ecological consequences of the Chernobyl accident,” the ministry stressed.
According to the press service, the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed the view that the UN bodies should do their utmost to effectively assist countries in their implementation of Sustainable Development Goals approved last year at the UN Summit. This should include the full use of all available mechanisms of international assistance, including finance, technology, and exchange of experience. Different partnerships by countries and other actors should aim at multiplying the effects of such assistance through joint action and promotion of collective interests in the most topical issues of international development.
