MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – Belarus strongly feels the heat of today's confrontation between countries, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at the international forum “Eastern Europe: In Search of Security for All” in the Belarusian capital on 23 May, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus strongly feels the heat of today's confrontation between countries. This confrontation has a very negative impact on all aspects of our lives: political, economic, social. Therefore, all of us need to find out how to turn to advantage the country’s location in between the centers of power and to transform it from a cause of problems into a factor of development, cooperation and prosperity,” Vladimir Makei noted.
In his words, today the role of small and medium-sized states located in between the European Union and the EAEU, NATO and the CSTO, other international and regional organizations id growing more important, acquires additional value amid dramatically increased contradictions in the international arena. “Maybe not everyone will agree with this. Perhaps, some, first of all, big geopolitical players, will not like it,” the minister said.
Challenges and threats, new walls of misunderstanding and mutual distrust are the number one topic for discussion at the political level today. “It is very important that the current conference is dedicated both to the analysis of the problems and the search for their solutions. We need to communicate, seek and suggest mutually acceptable decisions,” Vladimir Makei said.
