MINSK, 16 March (BelTA) - Belarus is not seeking political dividends from its position on Ukraine, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
"Today the policy lacks sincerity. A series of the conflicts that are now taking place were caused by, perhaps, political ambitions. Belarus has no such ambitions. We do not seek to gain political dividends by taking this or that position on the situation in Ukraine. The country’s leadership takes a sincere stance on the Ukrainian and other conflicts on the basis of the national interests. Perhaps this is what makes our partners pay more attention to Belarus," he said.
Vladimir Makei stressed that for Belarus and Belarusians war and peace are not just empty words. "We have suffered a lot in the past and understand what war is. We never wanted a war to come to our home or homes of our neighbors. This is why Belarus has done and will do everything to settle the Ukrainian crisis and prevent any other conflicts,” the Belarusian Foreign Minister said.
