RIGA, 21 May (BelTA) - Belarus hopes that the European region will remain a zone of peace and stability, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei said upon arriving in Riga to participate in the Eastern Partnership Summit on 20 May, BelTA has learned.
When asked whether he refers to Ukraine, Vladimir Makei said: "Not only. We would like to see our continent to peaceful and stable. Irrespective of Ukraine. This also applies to the economic issues, financial problems.”
"Belarus has one expectation: we want the summit to give the hope that our region will remain a zone of peace, tranquility and stability, not a hotbed of confrontation," the Minister added.
The head of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the official reception on behalf of Latvia President Andris Berzins in the historical downtown of Riga on 20 May.
