MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) – Research outcomes should have a practical application, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he spoke with scholars in Minsk on 23 January, BelTA has learned.
“I absolutely demand that research should have a practical value. We do not need any idle talk in humanities or in natural sciences or in STEM fields. We need solutions that we can use in practice,” the head of state said.
The president gave an instruction to thoroughly study the situation in this field: “We need to find time to hear out a report of the head of the Academy of Sciences on fulfilling the instructions I gave a year ago and two years ago. I mean the instruction on the electric car and other things. What is the state of affairs here? We need to schedule a meeting with members of the Academy of Sciences after the first quarter maybe and to review progress in implementing their solutions.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko suggested studying the efficiency of the existing system of appealing the assessment and defense of research papers. He believes that it is not right that appeals are processed by those who earlier made a decision on the same research papers. “Let us take our time. Let us see whether classical principles are observed here: whether it is a request for a fair judgment, or a grievance against those who made a decision. We believe that appeals should be considered by different people,” the president said
The head of state urged to deal with this matter impartially. “If you think we should keep this system, let it be so. If you arrive at a conclusion that this system should be somewhat reformed, we will consider it if needed,” he said.
