Lukashenko wants banking system to serve Belarusian people

Lukashenko wants banking system to serve Belarusian people

MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) – The banking system should serve the Belarusian people. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement as he met with top officials of the country’s central bank and made a few personnel decisions on 20 July, BelTA has learned.

The president remarked that all the tasks the central bank had been given should be reflected by the updated Banking Code. He said he wants the document updated without delays.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “If you need prompt decisions, make proposals. Aide to the President [Valery] Belsky is in charge of updating the code. He should keep an eye on this work. And the Banking Code should not exist without connections to the Belarusian economy. The economy should not develop in a direction it ‘wants’ to develop. The Banking Code should correspond to the life and the development of our economy, to the life of our people.”

“Let me repeat once again: I expect the National bank to make decisive steps to further develop the financial system, primarily to support the real sector of the economy, bolster trust in the national currency and improve the protection of the population. The banking system should serve the Belarusian people,” Aleksandr Lukashenko concluded.
