MINSK, 6 May (BelTA) – Victory Day is a holiday of great significance for the Belarusian nation, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with employees of Minsk Motor Plant on 6 May, BelTA has learned.
“This is the great day of Victory. On this day I will have the same feelings as you. It cannot be otherwise,” the head of state noted. He emphasized that it is very important to remember those who defended our freedom and independence. “If the Victory had not been won, we would not have been having this conversation,” Alexander Lukashenko pointed out.
“Now we live on our own land, and this is thanks to those who fought against the enemy and won the Victory. This is why we should not hesitate to pay tribute to those who died and those who survived in that tough fight,” Alexander Lukashenko emphasized. He noted with regret that the number of veterans is shrinking year by year.
The Belarusian leader said that on 9 May he will be celebrating the Great Victory Day together with the people of Belarus. In the morning, he will take part in a wreath-laying ceremony. The celebration program also includes the Belarus Remembers march that will be joined by members of the general public and representatives of youth organization and public associations. A large concert will be held in the evening to mark Victory Day.
On 3 July, Belarus’ Independence Day and Minsk Liberation Day, the main celebration events will take place at the Minsk Hero City Stele.
