Lukashenko speaks up about EU politics and politicians

MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko gave his take on the politics and politicians of the European Union as he delivered his annual Address to the Belarusian people and the National Assembly on 31 March, BelTA has learned.
“An independent foreign policy is a luxury in the modern world, a luxury that not all nations and states can afford. Especially today, when global tensions have probably reached their highest point since the end of World War II,” the president said.
The president noted that some ten years ago, few would have thought that such a strong association as the European Union could actually lose its decision-making power. “There is only one indicator of a country’s foreign policy independence – the political will of its leader. Which European leaders seem to have this will today?” Aleksandr Lukashenko asked rhetorically. The policy of the European Union, both on the global stage and domestically, completely caters to the interests of the United States,” he added.
At the same time, the president believes that it is wrong to talk about the Western influence today. “Replace the word ‘West’ with ‘the United States of America’. The West (including the European Union) itself is suffering from this policy today,” the head of state is convinced. According to him, the United States has long begun to tear the European Union apart in its pursuit of economic dominance. “As soon as the European Union introduced its own currency, the euro, the Americans began to stifle their subjects who had little sovereignty anyway. And it got even worse with time,” Aleksandr Lukashenko explained.
According to him, the USA was infuriated by the EU’s closer relationship with Russia in energy supplies and technology exchange. The Americans saw this as a threat to themselves, and soon Brexit happened, which marked the beginning of the actual disintegration of Europe. “Europe began to collapse, and it was triggered by America. And what now? They are bragging that Biden has united the entire civilized world. In fact, he has long subjugated this civilized world,” the Belarusian leader emphasized.
Aleksandr Lukashenko also gave his take on the enlargement of NATO: “Who did you scare? No one. You imposed your will on these countries that lived peacefully and cooperated with Russia. They got involved against their will,” the president explained.
“My vision is the following: Europe can survive only if it stands with us, first of all, with Russia. If Europe unites with Russia, it will create such a pole that will have no peers: neither friendly China, nor even the United States. Because resources are here, and the most advanced competencies are there,” the head of state continued. He is convinced that the United States is using the situation in Ukraine to bring Europe to heel, crush it and then keep it in check.
“Today, European nations are dragged into a reckless arms race, mired in economic stagnation and moral depression. They are being drawn into a conflict with Russia, into confrontation with China,” the head of state noted. He believes that the leadership of the EU countries is afraid even to lift a finger and make a decision in the interests of their own people. “Do you think they wanted to deliver Leopards there [to Ukraine], especially the Germans? The Germans were forced to ramp up their production and send them there. Did they want it? They didn’t. But they still started supplying them. Because they were told to do it by Washington. This is what they call discipline,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
The confrontation resulted in the loss of the Russian and Belarusian markets for European goods, the loss of access to inexpensive and stable supplies of Russian raw materials, the bankruptcy of entire industries, manufacturing, the service sector, and the drop in the living standards of their own citizens. “Yet, until quite recently, the pragmatic cooperation between the EU and Belarus and Russia brought tangible benefits to them,” the head of state remarked. “The Ukrainian situation shows even more eloquently what it means to follow foreign interests,” he added.
A similar story is Poland’s decision to impose restrictions on crossing the border. It brought more harm to product supply chains of a number of countries than to Belarus.
“And is it possible to say that the UN, the OSCE, the IMF, a number of other international structures that have long served the interests of the globalists are pursuing an independent policy?” the president asked rhetorically.
