MINSK, 14 December (BelTA) – Some issues remain on the Belarusian-Russian agenda remain unsettled. They will be addressed at the highest level in the near future, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with representatives of the Russian media on 14 December, BelTA has learned.
“We long planned this meeting. Frankly speaking, we were preparing to take stock of the Belarusian-Russian cooperation. Unfortunately, some issues still remain unsettled. My Russian counterpart and I will do our best to address them in the near future,” the head of state said.
The president stated that a lot of other topics deserve attention today. “Two years have passed since we last met with you but it seems that we live in an absolutely different world today. You, journalists, know better than anyone how fast this world is changing. We can see a new turn in the arms race, trade wars, growth of extremism, confusion of values. This is coupled with rumors and fake news that traditionally fill the media space, complicating the perception of reality. You understand that these factors also affect the life of our union, the pace of our strategic cooperation,” the head of state.
According to the president, this year the list of participants has been expanded to include not only journalists and bloggers, but also representatives of the Russian expert community. “The more constructive professional and personal contacts we have, the more effective the relations between our states will be,” the Belarusian leader said.

Alexander Lukashenko stressed that the key to a successful partnership between Belarus and Russia is interregional cooperation. “I generally see interregional ties as lifesaver of our union,” the president stressed.
According to him, Belarus supports stable trade and economic relations with almost all regions of Russia that house many manufacturing facilities which serve as integration links.
