MINSK, 29 September (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has sent a message of greetings to the participants of the 12th Forum of Sister Cities of Belarus and Russia, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.
The president emphasized the symbolic value of the fact that this year's forum was taking place in Brest, the city being proud of its rich heroic history, embodying the memory of the heroic deeds of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War, the fortitude and courage of the defenders of the Brest Fortress, the country’s defiance in standing strong against the enemy invasion.
“Today the need to preserve the historical truth about the common past is of particular relevance, and authoritative bilateral platforms like this summit serve as an important tool for strengthening fraternal ties between the peoples and countering unprecedented external pressure,” the message of greetings reads.
Aleksandr Lukashenko named the sister cities forum an active form of promoting cooperation between Belarus and Russia in key areas.
“This format of interaction plays the role of one of the drivers behind integration processes and continues to prove its relevance in the Union State,” the president emphasized. “I am confident that strong ties between cities will continue to serve as a reliable basis for interregional partnership between Belarus and Russia.”
The Belarusian head of state wished the participants of the 12th Forum of Sister Cities successful and fruitful work for the benefit of the two brotherly peoples.
