MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – I care about the future of my country rather than my power, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he delivered his Annual State of the Nation Address on 19 April, BelTA has learned.
In his speech the head of state touched upon possible changes in the Constitution in part of redistribution of functions and giving more powers to other branches of government. Aleksandr Lukashenko said that he would not like to leave the Constitution in its current format to his successor, adding that the country has already passed the period when it needed a strong presidential power.
“This does not mean that we will make an attempt to develop some kind of a system allowing Lukashenko to wield power behind the presidency. This will not happen in the country. I promise you,” the Belarusian leader said.
“I think about the future of my country, not my power. I have already had enough of it. Stop writing about it. Those who think so are incompetent people,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
