MINSK, 14 December (BelTA) – Russians do not get a full and objective picture of Belarus through the media and, especially, television, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the meeting with representatives of the Russian media on 14 December, BelTA has learned.
“Our citizens have free access to Russia’s leading TV channels, internet resources and printed media. Russian audience, however, knows very little about the real Belarus. Only one Belarusian TV channel is available in Russia via satellite, which does not provide a complete picture of the country,” the Belarusian leader said.
“When we suggest to have Belarus 24 broadcast in some region, especially in Moscow, they roll out huge protective duties. And this happens in the Union State. Therefore, you are are our window into the brotherly Russia, whatever some may say about it. Indeed, you are a real window into our Russia. Because your audiences will get some more information from you about Belarus, real Belarus,” the president said.
The president noted that this year Russia and Belarus have conducted more than 200 interregional meetings. About 20 heads of Russian regions visited Belarus. I meet with every governor personally. All visits are widely covered in the Belarusian media. What did your audiences learn about these meetings, particularly from federal, central media outlets,” the Belarusian leader asked.
According to the head of state, the internet helps a little. People can read some objective information from Belarusian sources.
“We understand the specifics of the format. However, if you make reports on Belarus, please invite experts who know about the internal political processes in the country, who possess information and can give an adequate and professional assessment,” the head of state added.
