MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) – There will be serious reforms in sport, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said on 12 May when he approved the appointment of Sergei Repkin as the rector of the Belarusian State University of Physical Education, BelTA has learned.
The head of state mentioned positive trends, the number of people going in for mass sports is increasing. “Unfortunately, there is less progress in elite sport. That is the problem,” he said.
In this regard, Alexander Lukashenko criticized the results of Belarusian ice hockey players.
“You should know that we embark on serious reforms in the entire sport sector. We cannot tolerate this any longer,” the Belarusian leader stressed.
The president also pointed out the importance of the competent selection of people willing to work and produce results. According to the head of state, it is not normal when the functionaries of certain sports federations get high salaries without any achievements.
“It is needed to focus on our coaches, our people. Your future task is to train them,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
Sergei Repkin shared his opinion about the topical issues concerning the development of the university. He remarked that the scientific basis of the Soviet era is depleted. Besides, the university needs personnel refreshment.
“I agree. You must leave the elements you need and introduce innovations in other sectors. You are right that personnel issues are the main thing. You need people who want to work. Any system can be improved and adapted. But the willingness to work is the main thing,” the president said.
