MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) – The top priority must be given to the interests of people, representatives of different sectors, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Chairman of the Belarusian Federation of Trade Unions (FTUB) Mikhail Orda on 10 November, BelTA has learned.
The president made a focus on two important areas that directly relate to people's daily life. The first one is the monitoring of prices on the consumer market, which is already successfully done by trade unions. The second one is the utilities sector and the quality of its services.
“We made an agreement and I asked trade unions to ensure the control over the pricing. I see that trade unions are even more involved in the issue than government bodies. People you support will appreciate it. They have already appreciated it,” he said.
The head of state noted that it is necessary to control prices for staple foods in the first place. “There is no need to state that this is a market, democracy and so on. We saw both market and democracy. All the countries, not only in Europe, but also the United States have demonstrated their democracy. Therefore, interests of the people, interests of our workers should be at the head of our policy,” the Belarusian leader stressed.
As for the utilities sector, Aleksandr Lukashenko stated that the situation is under control in terms of tariff formation. “We need to pay attention to the quality of services. They always come first in social polls,” the head of state said.
“These are two main issues [prices on the consumer market and the quality of utility services]. Trade unions should keep them under control,” the president said.
