MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – On 22 April Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko agreed on the appointment of heads of local executive and administrative bodies, BelTA has learned.
“The vast majority of you will be involved in the development of far-reaching, strategic decisions for our state – that is what the Belarusian People’s Congress will do. We will talk in greater detail about specific problems. And all people will hear about the problems that we are facing today and need to address in the near future. You will need to manage large teams. You will have a certain area of responsibility. Please keep in mind that you will be “presidents” in these areas - in cities or in city districts, or in district centers. It’s not an easy year: it’s a politically important year (you know this very well), and many issues will have to be resolved,” the head of state said.
The president emphasized that sowing and the agricultural sector in general should be the primary focus for cities and district centers now. The president noted that the weather was relatively good. However, heavy precipitation will quite possibly result in a dry summer.
“We need to get ready for this. Therefore, every day, every hour, every minute we need to know what is going on and to do everything on time. And city dwellers must get involved and help. This year we need to not only provide for ourselves for the next year, but also lay groundwork for the future,” the president said outlying the tasks.
The president commented on the appointment of former aide to the commander of internal troops - head of the mobilization and territorial defense department Igor Burmistrov as Novopolotsk mayor. “I know that you were also interested in this job. This option seemed very reasonable to me. Military people (army personnel, internal troops, and others) complete their service at a fairly young age and they do not want to stay at home. I am convinced that military people will be able to handle civilian tasks,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
At the same time, he noted that running Novopolotsk is a difficult job. “I really look forward to you getting into the swing of things and taking under control issues related to enterprises and people, and I hope that I will hear only good feedback about your work. I will definitely visit Novopolotsk to see if this personnel decision was right,” the head of state noted.
It is necessary to resolve a number of issues in Gomel, the president added. The president greenlighted the appointment of Head of the Property Management Directorate of the Gomel City Executive Committee Aleksei Vasyuchenko to the position of Head of the Novobelitsky District administration of Gomel.
“We need to get involved in helping agriculture first of all: most of our problems lie there. And, in addition to addressing issues facing the city, you will have to attend to agriculture too,” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized.
The president also mentioned Mogilev Oblast. Oleg Stelmashok will now be responsible for social security issues in this region in his new role as Mogilev Oblast Deputy Governor. Vyacheslav Moksachev was appointed Head of the Kostyukovichi District Executive Committee.
“Kostyukovichi and other districts are part of my plan to promote the east of Mogilev Oblast, which was also affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. It is desirable to make Kostyukovichi an example to follow,” the head of state noted.
“In general, guys, there is a lot of work to do. It will not dwindle, and the situation for us will not become easier. Perhaps it will be more difficult than now. But, as we say, time chose us, we did not choose it. Therefore, we must hold out, persevere and do everything we should to keep our country safe. As I say, economy is a priority. If you take on economy, I’m ready to do the rest,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
