GOMEL, 21 July (BelTA) – Belarus has enough competencies and professionals to manufacture advanced goods, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with top officials and executives of Gomel Oblast on 21 July, BelTA has learned.
“Our people can do everything. We just need some time and better discipline and accountability,” the Belarusian leader emphasized.
Aleksandr Lukashenko cited Gomselmash as a case in point. This company was not shut down. Quite the opposite, the enterprise got a significant boost and started making most advanced products. “We have gradually created a super-modern combine harvester,” he said.
According to the president, this is not the only company that got a new lease on life. At the same time, Aleksandr Lukashenko admitted that Gomselmash has some unresolved problems which are being addressed now. Still, the company manufactures most sophisticated products.
“The region's manufacturing sector of the mid-1990s is a far cry from what it is now. However, to be honest, there is room for improvement. All industrial companies either stood idle or were struggling back then. Hundreds of swindlers were eying BMZ, Mozyr Oil Refinery, Gomselmash and your other major companies. So that you know, in the 1990s, companies in our country were divided, everything was divided,” the Belarusian leader said.
He emphasized that if this matter had not been handled properly back then, the situation would have been different now. “I assure you that we, at Gomselmash, would not have talked about producing modern combine harvesters powered by a gas engine,” the head of state said.
