MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ coronavirus response strategy has been adopted by other states, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting in Minsk on 12 May, BelTA has learned.
“The ongoing developments related to viruses and other diseases that we had and have in plenty are still tolerable in Belarus. We are not saying that everything is all right, that we have taken fortune by the forelock. We have not. However, the strategy that we have been following nearly three months is bearing fruit. Other states have started following suit. Look at western countries: they have started reopening cautiously; their economies have restarted; these are millions of people. At the same time, the daily death count there [from diseases aggravated by coronavirus] is higher than the number of deaths in Belarus over these three months,” the Belarusian leader said.
“Look at the east – the friendly, fraternal Russia has reopened the construction industry, manufacturing enterprises and other key economic sectors. They employ more than 90% of population who will go back to work. The rich Russia has accumulated huge gold and foreign currency reserves and the National Wealth Fund. The country has realized that consequences might be bad,” the head of state said.
