Lukashenko names new tradition in history of Belarus-Russia Union State

MINSK, 1 April (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko called the ceremony to present the Union State Award in Science and Technology a new tradition in the history of the Belarus-Russia Union State on 1 April, BelTA has learned.

According to the head of state, a new tradition appeared in the run-up to the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia that is observed on 2 April. This new tradition is the ceremony to present the Union State Award in Science and Technology that was approved by the Supreme State Council of the Union State. The ceremony will be held for the first time.

The award was handed over to the scientists involved in the development, creation and operation of the  Belarusian Space System for Earth Remote Sensing, which comprises the Belarusian satellite BKA as part of the Russian-Belarusian orbital grouping and the Earth observation satellite Kanopus-V. Among the awardees are Belarusian scientists Pyotr Vityaz, Sergei Zolotoi, Dmitry Sikorsky, as well as Russian scientists Leonid Makridenko, Rashit Salikhov and Sergei Terekhov.

The award was also presented to scientists who took part in the development and production of high-performance electromagnetic protection systems and a new generation of cosmic ray detectors for space instruments with improved performance. Among the laureates are Belarusian scientists Sergei Grabchikov, Nikolai Mukhurov and Aleksei Trukhanov, as well as Russian scientists Natalya Borodkova, Oleg Korablev, Vladimir Kotsov.

Aleksandr Lukashenko wished the scientists many successes in their further work for the benefit of the peoples of Belarus and Russia, “for the sake of the future and our East Slavic civilization”. “Today this civilization needs support more than ever, we need to preserve it. May your ideas always be ahead of the game,” the president added.
